New Carl Zeiss Vision lens is Superb
Carl Zeiss Vision has launched a new single-vision lens named Superb. The new lens uses freeform technology, which the manufacturer claimed allowed for more precision compared to conventional single-vision lenses, resulting in clear and sharp vision over the entire lens.
The new lenses are designed for each patient’s prescription, including sphere, cyl, axis, prism and prism base. Point-by-point optimisation is applied over the entire lens surface, creating what was said to be fewer power errors in the lens periphery and allowing for more precise optical images and improved visual comfort for the patient.
’Zeiss single-vision Superb lenses provide high-definition visual acuity for the wearer, as point-by-point optimisation of the Rx lens design generated by our freeform technology, delivers higher levels of relaxed vision and wearing comfort for patients,’ said Peter Robertson, marketing and communications director, Carl Zeiss Vision.

from: Optician OnlineNEW EQUIPMENT – OPTOVUE Optical Coherence Tomographer
OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY
We have just installed two OCT machines in our practices. OCT or Optical Coherence Tomography, is an advanced technology used to examine all parts of the eye, from the cornea (front optical surface) and anterior segment all the way through to the layers of the retina and optic nerve. It is particularly useful for examining the retina and optic nerve, especially in cases of suspect macular degeneration and glaucoma.
An OCT scan is comparable to a MRI or CAT scan for the eyes and can form a three dimensional image allowing the optometrist to see, sometimes for the first time, problems within your eye that could not easily be seen before.
As recently as 10 years ago OCT technology was mainly used in research laboratories, but recent advances in this revolutionary technology have brought it into the forefront of quality eye care. It is used extensively in hospitals but are only available from a few independent optometrists such as ourselves.
The OCT machines are installed at Bournemouth and Poole branches and can be requested at the time of your consultation or as indicated during the examination.
