Professional Team
Optometrists
CRAIG WILCOX
Craig graduated from the Witwatersrand School of Optometry in Johannesburg South Africa. He then completed his UK registration as well as postgraduate certification through the New England College of Optometry in the USA.
Before entering into his current comprehensive eye care practice, Craig has served as a staff Optometrist at Baragwanath teaching hospital in South Africa as well as Clinical Director of a group of optical practices spread throughout southern Africa. Currently he is a faculty member at the J&J Vision Care institute, and has lectured nationally and internationally, specifically on communication and reading rehabilitation. He is a member of the British College of Optometry, British Contact Lens Association and British Association of Behavioural Optometrists.
Craig moved to Bournemouth in 1997 and started CLASSIC Eyes in 2000 with his partners Thania Wilcox and Justin Hardy.
JUSTIN HARDY
Justin graduated from Rand Afrikaans University, South Africa, in 1994 with a Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom) degree. He has since also completed a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease from the New England College of Optometry in Boston USA.
Justin started work in private practice shortly after graduating and managed a practice in South Africa for 5 years before moving to the UK in 1999. After registering with the General Optical Council, Justin worked in a large practice in Norwich before moving to Bournemouth to join partners Craig and Thania Wilcox in establishing Classic Eyes. He has a special interest in contact lenses including keratoconus and complex lens fitting, as well as management of children with dyslexia and binocular vision problems.
He has been involved in the Dorset Diabetic Eye Screening Programme since 2001 and completed the City and Guilds Certificate in Diabetic Screening in 2008. He is also a member of Bournemouth Round Table, where he was Chairman and President in 2007.
NAJIN AJDARI
Najin graduated from Aston University, Birmingham, 2001 with a Bachelor of Optometry (BSc. Hons) degree. She then passed the professional qualifying exam in 2002, registered with the General Medical Council & became a member of the UK College of Optometrists. She has since registered with the New Zealand Optometrists Board (2004) and completed a Postgraduate Course in Ocular Therapeutics at Auckland University, New Zealand (Cert.Oc.Pharm) in 2009.
Following graduation, Najin worked at the Medical Eye Centre in Southampton for 4 years during which she undertook a course in Sports Vision and examined members of the British Olympic Sailing Team (2004). She then moved to NZ where she worked in private practice for 4 years. She found the experience in NZ invaluable, refining her investigative and diagnostic skills by attending seminars & practical sessions at the local eye hospital and clinics.
She returned to the UK and joined Classic Eyes in 2011. Najin enjoys Contact Lens fitting, Dry eye management and has a particular interest in Glaucoma where she participates in Glaucoma NZ continuing professional education series.
Dispensing Opticians
LUCY FREEMAN
Lucy began her career in optics in 1997 and worked for a few leading multiple practices before becoming a member of the Classic Eyes team in 2001. She qualified as a Dispensing optician in 2002 and have enjoyed sharing her knowledge with the optical assistants at Classic eyes, to enable them to become more proficient in giving advice and assistance to patients. With Classic Eyes embracing innovative optical technology whenever possible, she finds the continued skills training to make her job the more interesting and enjoyable. Lucy is responsible for the high standard set in the workshop as well as the continued education and increased skills set of all the optical assistants in both practices.
Locum Optometrists
At Classic Eyes we employ the best optometrists from around the world to give professional cover whenever needed. These optometrists are all specialists in their field and bring an added dimension of skill and learning to the practice.
Past Locums include:
Roger Brink – Roger has a practice in South Africa and specialises in child vision therapy and dyslexia management.
Tony Yoell – Tony managed his own very successful practice for many years before ‘retiring’ from his practice to locum on a full time basis. Tony continues to travel, imparting his knowledge to practices worldwide.
Michelle Wilcox – Michelle is in full time practice in Durban, South Africa where she owns her own Classic Eyes practice in partnership with Danny. She makes an annual pilgrimage to the UK to share African perspectives in eye care management.
